COMMEMORATING THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF KING’S DEATH
INITIATIVE INCLUDES EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH AND ‘MOUNTAINTOP MOMENTS’ SHORT FORM CONTENT WITH JADA PINKETT SMITH, MICHAEL STRAHAN, MARSHALL ‘EMINEM’ MATHERS, SUNNY HOSTIN, AMONG OTHERS
New York, NY – April 5, 2018 – HISTORY is joining with the King Center to observe the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King. The partnership includes short form content entitled “Mountaintop Moments,” based on King’s landmark “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop” speech, and features prominent Americans from diverse backgrounds sharing their hope for the future and how they see King’s vision alive in the world today. These videos will run on-air and across HISTORY’s digital and social platforms throughout 2018 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of King’s death.
The “Mountaintop Moments” short form video series is available on History.com/mountaintopmoments and YouTube and www.thekingcenter.org. The series will feature notables such as: Jada Pinkett Smith, Marshall “Eminem” Mathers, Dr. Bernice King, Michael Strahan, Sunny Hostin, Deepak Chopra, among others. Additionally, History.com will include a special essay from Dr. Daina Berry, Associate Professor of History and African and African diaspora studies at the University of Texas, which discusses the state of race in America today. The videos will also be available on History’s and The King Center’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages, viewers will have the opportunity to share their own visions using the #MountainTopMoments hashtag.
This initiative will also include robust educational components for schools to learn about King’s speeches and writings, his commitment to social change and non-violence and Coretta Scott King’s groundbreaking work.
